Serenity Grove

Webmaster's Note: A poem originally written by me in Sophomore Composition. It is titled "Serenity Grove".

I reworked and revamped this piece for a Poetry (Scholarship) Contest which I entered in Spring of 2000. Unfortunately, I was not a finalist.

Serenity Grove

A majestic cluster of towering Red pines
Abides by itself.
It sorrowfully resides
Within the scorching conflagration
Of a dark, tangerine inferno.
The torrid flames pop and explode,
Invading the tranquillity of vulnerable sienna foliage.
Fragile branches crumble
As sparks bombard them, ruthlessly.
Crackling fire chomps at a row
Of adjacent emerald shrubbery.
The flames advance like leeward ocean waves.
Ebony fumes ascend from the ground.
Oppressive air dominates the atmosphere above.
The fire dances toward nearby groups of trees.
It ignites into colossal, golden novas
Of blinding light and fury.
Here, a utopian niche of nature
Once known as Serenity Grove
Deteriorates . . . hopelessly forsaken.
