Jarek was once a member of the Black Dragon Clan, a group of dangerous thieves. Jarek joined the clan after befriending Kano, and came to be trusted by Kano as much as any thief can be trusted by another. When Kano is killed during Kahn's invasion of Earth, the Black Dragon dies with him. The few members that are left are hunted down by Sonya and Jax and arrested. Jarek manages to elude the two for a while, but eventually finds that he's the only Black Dragon member left. He's pursued by Sonya and Jax, but before they can catch him, Shinnok begins his assault on the gods and on Earth itself. Sonya and Jax turn their attention to defending Earth against Shinnok in Mortal Kombat. Jarek doesn't understand the events taking place, but is caught in the middle of them. He doesn't know who's fighting or what they're fighting for, so he just tries to save his own life.
