Major Jackson "Jax" Briggs became Sonya Blade's partner after her old partner was killed by Kano. Jax and Sonya are both part of the same special forces unit in the U.S. Army. Jax and Sonya were assigned to investigate the activities of the Black Dragon crime organization. For months, they tracked the activities of the organization, and more importantly of it's leader Kano. Jax helped Sonya track Kano to a location in central China, but soon afterward Sonya and a few members of their special forces unit left to find Kano on their own. Jax believed it was because Sonya wants to kill Kano rather than arrest him for his crimes. He tried to find Sonya, but ran into dead ends until he met a strange man who told him about something called Mortal Kombat and a place called Outworld. Jax didn't believe the man's claims to be a sorcerer, but decided to go on his information since there weren't any other leads. The man transported Jax to Outworld, where he soon found himself in the middle of Shao Kahn's tournament. Despite his disbelief at the place he was in and the strange creatures he was having to fight, Jax was able to find Sonya and Kano held captive in Outworld. He freed both of them, hoping he and Sonya would finally be able to bring Kano to justice, but Kano escaped capture. Jax returned to Earth with Sonya. Both of them tried to warn the U.S. government about Shao Kahn. Noone in the government believed them, so Jax started to prepare for the coming battle himself by electing to get a procedure that would replace both of his existing arms with stronger cybernetic arms. The stronger limbs helped Jax to fight Kahn's warriors when during the invasion of Earth. After Shao Kahn is defeated, Jax and Sonya, finally aided by Congress, set up and Outerworld Investigation Agency. They plan to explore other realms, using technology rather than magic to open portals. However, first they both decide to track down the remaining members of the dying Black Dragon organization. While pursuing Jarek, the last known living Black Dragon member, Jax and Sonya find out about Shinnok having escaped from the Netherrealm, and the new threat to Earth he brings. Both are requested by Rayden to defend the Earth in Mortal Kombat. Jax stands ready for a new war, a war that he's once again prepared to win.
