The D-OS (Digital Output System) is a model of digivice created by the Digital World. Features included are interactive maps of the Digital and Real Worlds, a messenger system tuned to the Digital World's network, a digimon bestiary, and the ability to locate all other active D-OS within a 10 mile radius. Even in an idle state (e.g: when the screen is powered down, or set to sleep), the D-OS is always recording and storing information about the pair of partners assigned to it. This information is kept in a simple text file stored on a solid state drive within the device. It can be accessed and opened if the D-OS is connected to a pc through a hidden USB port, but the text is gibberish. Once evolution is achieved, this text file is compiled into an executable and activated. The D-OS's menus can be accessed through the touch screen, and are displayed through a holographic HUD. Options and details can be accessed and changed with a simple touch.

evolution
Evolution is a natural part of a Digimon's physiology, occuring after years of data accumulation. Because a digimon's life span is so long, reaching the Mega level is not impossible, though the amount of data it requires is immeaserable, so it is more typical for a Digimon to reach Champion or Ultimate without the aid of a partner. Digimon can evolve while under duress, but this makes the process much more painful and the risk of death is much higher. Having a human partner can mitigate the stress placed on a digimon, ensuring their survival as they reach the next step in their evolution line. But the change is temporary, since it is a forced evolution instead of a natural one. While most Digimon follow a theme as they evolve, once partnered with a human, their stages can vary wildly, depending on the nature of the relationship between the partners.

All Digimon evolution follows the same general path, with each level being more powerful than the last:
Digi-Egg   →   Fresh   →   In-Training   →   Rookie   →   Champion   →   Ultimate   →   Mega
The evolution used by the Digimon of DOTEXE are:

executable evolution
Typically used to raise a rookie level Digimon to champion. Using the simple text file stored within its ssd, the D-OS creates and executes an evolution file containing the information of the digimon's champion level. This executable file can be used at will once it's unlocked. When the text file is converted into an executable, the D-OS creates a new one and begins the recording process over again.
