Aloof is probably the best way to describe Joel. He's uninterested in conversation, especially with people he doesn't know and is usually uninterested in getting to know them. Small talk makes him impatient and he'd much rather you get to the point instead of beating around the bush. He gets bored easily and when he's bored, he checks out.

That's not to say Joel isn't nice. On the contrary, when you've gotten past his barrier, you're often greeted with a warm hearted guy who likes spending relaxing, quiet moments with the people he treasures most. But getting there is half the battle and Joel is about as stubborn as they come.

He's got little interest in helping the Digital World through its crisis to Guilmon's endless frustration. Despite his reluctance to play the hero, Joel often finds himself as the defacto leader of sorts. The others certainly turn to him more often than not because he's quick thinking and practical and able to think up solutions to tricky problems on the fly. He doesn't care for it, but maybe one day he'll learn to accept it.

Background

Joel doesn't talk much about his family. His mother, Elena, was 20 when he was born and his father was about as absent as he could be. She lives in another state with her current husband and daughter while Joel moved to Laguna Bay after accepting a welding job. He currently lives in a one bedroom apartment a floor above Kale in Village Point.
