Touring Asia via air, land, and
sea...
|
On August 26, I embarked upon the
first real "holiday" that I've had in 15 years. I took a
one-hour flight
from Seoul to Busan (sometimes spelled
"Pusan"), then took a fantastic luxury cruise to two
cities in southwest Japan.
When I returned to Seoul four days
later, I traveled via Korean Railways and got a much closer look
at the incredibly beautiful Korean Peninsula.
On the above-right map, the straight red line shows the
Korean Airlines flight path. The curvy blue line depicts the
return rail
route.

As
shown on the left, Star
Cruises runs
3 cruises between South Korea and Japan. Mine was the four day cruise to Fukuoka and Kagoshima
(as
illustrated by the red arrows).
The diagram on the
right shows the floor plan for Deck 7 on the ship, Superstar
Taurus. Mine was room 7111 and, although there were no
windows, it was quiet, comfortable, clean, & close to 2 great
restaurants.

"Show me the
money...NOT!"
|
The price of this cruise was
incredibly cheaper than anything you'd find in North America.
Including 6 free meals a day plus such no-charge amenities as
swimming pool, spa, gymnasium, Las Vegas-style entertainment,
Karaoke, and piano bar, these 4 wonderful days of
fully-pampered bliss cost me less than $615.00 Canadian! With a
room-mate, it would have cost less than $485.00 Canadian!! To top
it all off, there was a cashless economy on the ship--as
facilitated by the plastic card-key you see here--and absolutely
no tipping!
By the
way, the same no-tipping custom exists throughout Korea and eating
out is VERY inexpensive. That's just one more reason why I LOVE KOREA! |
