Vancouver, British Columbia, is one of the most sophisticated,
cosmopolitan urban areas in all of Canada. Since coming to Korea, I've
also discovered that it's also among Canada's most famous cities. Most of
the time, when you ask a Korean if they know where Red Deer, Edmonton, or
Calgary are, they'll just shrug and ask you to repeat your question.
But if you mention Vancouver, their eyes light up, they smile, and say,
"Ahhhh Bancouber!" (Pronunciation of the letter "V" is
very difficult for Korean people.)Here
