Letter to Saint Paul

Webmaster's Note: This is a letter to Saint Paul (disciple of Jesus Christ from the Christian Bible), written by my friend Keith for a class project (he was studying to be a minister). Keith is also known as "Keyth_K", he wrote another editorial for my website on the topic of male circumcisions.

Keith's letter offers a formal challenge to claims by some Christians that Paul's biblical passages "condemn" homosexuality.

However, I would like to remind everyone that even if Paul did intentionally write his passages to condemn homosexuality, that doesn't mean that Paul's view of homosexuality was "right" or "omnipotent". Paul may very well have been an orientationist individual.

And while I personally believe there are many Gods and Goddesses who rule our universe, assuming the Christian God is a genuine, existent deity, I doubt that the Christian God or Jesus Christ would condemn a person simply for loving someone of the same gender.

Letter to Saint Paul

by Keyth_K

Grace and peace to you Paul, my brother. Grace through our Creator in heaven, and peace through Jesus Christ who we know as the Prince of Peace, the risen Messiah of whom the prophets of old told us to prepare ourselves for his coming. The King of Kings who has told us himself that we all should prepare for his second coming. A time at which we will be judged accordingly, but at a time at which we know not when. A time for which we should now be prepared for.

Paul, I call you brother because you are closer to me than any who are born of the same blood. For our blood has been cleansed through God's grace with our faith in Jesus the Christ who sacrificed his body and poured out his blood for our sins and said that we are all brothers and sisters because we are all children of Abraham due to his faith in God Almighty.

I, your brother Keith, write to you Paul so that you may help with a problem that is plaguing the church here and in other places as well. It is an issue to which you have partially addressed in past letters, but indirectly. It is a question that needs to be answered because it keeps so many who believe from becoming members of the body of Christ, and because of your letters many who claim to be part of the body of Christ persecute those who believe but do not seem to comply with what you wrote in your letters. The issue is that of Homosexuality.

This debate was not something new even in your time, for this issue had been written about in the Torah. (Lev. 18:22) My question is this, if we are living under the new covenant, then what is wrong with two people who love each other, living together? As you said in your first letter to the Corinthians, love is the greatest of the three; faith, hope and love. Was it not you, brother Paul, who said it is better for two people to marry than to fall into the sin of adultery? Why would it be any different for two people of the same sex?

In your first letter to Timothy, (which some, argue you didn't even write, could you set us straight about that too?) you warn us about false teachers. You say, "that the law is good, if one uses it legitimately. This means understanding that the law is not laid down for the innocent but for the lawless and disobedient, for the godless and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their father or mother, for murderers, fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me." (1: 8-11)

Now my brother, I understand about those who kill their parents and those who murder, for it is wrong to take away from someone the gift of life that only God can give, and only God should take away. I also understand about slave trading for like murder who are we to be selling someone elses soul which belongs not to us. As for lying and perjury this goes against the teaching that our Lord Jesus Christ taught that we are to always seek the truth. By fornication, I can only assume you mean to have sex outside of marriage. Even our Lord Jesus Christ said, "and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." We are meant to be with one person. Sex outside of or even before marriage can cause years of lying and a lack of truth between two people. But what about Sodomy? Which is it, lawless, disobedient, godless or sinful?

Perhaps in your time it was lawless, but in my society for the most part it is not. Those places where it is unlawful it is so, only because you Paul have said it is so. As to being godless, I think not, many of the people who are committing sodomy are believers, but need more guidance on the subject. As for being sinful, sin is said to be that which separates us from God. My question then is what about it separates sodomites from God? Some would argue that God said homosexuality is wrong because God intended for men and women to be joined together for the purpose of procreation. If this is true, My brother Paul, are all those who choose to use birth control also sinning? Even though many couples are married they choose to use birth control to prevent procreation. Would not the sex they are having then fall into being fornication? If it is not a sin then for two people who are married to have sexual relations for enjoyment then why should it matter if they are of different gender or not? All of these people have faith, hope and love. The greatest of which is love. Is not grace enough? Paul, I don't understand, what exactly is their sin?

So then it comes down to a matter of disobedience. Because God said to Moses to say to the people in the Torah that lying with a man is an abomination then those who do so are disobedient. Of course there are many others who are sinning too. For God, our creator and redeemer said, "You shall keep all my statues and all my ordinances and observe them: I am the Lord." Why do we not make offerings anymore? The Lord commanded them in the Torah. What about eating Kosher? The Lord commanded this too. He even said that to eat such seafood as lobster or crab is detestable, yet Peter has told us it is ok to eat that which is not kosher, since God has created all of it. Did he not create man too? Did he not create feelings and allow people of the same gender to love each other? Then why is it wrong to do what God has created?

My brother Paul, you yourself wrote, "They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, to which their own conscience also bears witness." (Rom 2:15) Most of those whom I have talked with who call themselves homosexuals say to me, "How can it be wrong to love another person and want to share all of myself with that other person." Their hearts say it is right to love and to deny this would be lying. So what is it Paul, are homosexuals sinful? Are they evil? Will they all be going to hell because of love?

I have also heard it said that no it is not wrong for one man to love another since or lord Jesus Christ taught us all that we should love everyone. That what is sinful and evil is the acts which those who call themselves homosexuals commit. They could live happy God filled lives if they choose to love one another without having sex. Again Paul, I remind you of what you wrote saying that if two people must lust it is better for them to be married. Why not two people of the same gender. As I pointed out before, many married couples could be said to be sinning and doing evil by participating in "family planning" yet , even we as Christians encourage this behavior.

Paul, I plead of you, please be speedy in your response to this letter. Many lives are actually hanging in the balance waiting to hear what you shall say. Deaths among teens is highest for gay teens. Many other gays have left the body of Christ because other "Christians" have told them they are evil and sinful. This despite your warning in your letter to the Romans where you say "Therefore you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you judge others, for in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself." (2:1)

Paul, I pray that this letter finds you in good health, and in Good spirits. It is well known of the trials and tribulations that you have been put through because of your faith. May your life be an example to us all. May we remember that not only you , but our own Jesus Christ suffered on our behalf. May we remember that no matter how bad things may get, as long as we believe in Salvation through Jesus Christ and continue to have faith hope and love, we too will have eternal life in our Lord's heavenly mansion, where the Lord has gone to prepare a room for us. To which, when God sees fit we will be called to.

In our Lord Jesus Christ name I pray.

 Amen.
