MEET BRAINS

I'm not a Tracy brother, but I guess there aren't too many people closer to them than I am. It's been a real privilege and pleasure to work so closely with this wonderful, heroic family.

For security purposes, I don't ever give my real name, but I use the alias "Hiram K. Hackenbacker" when needed; I'm also known as "Homer" at times as well. It's hard for me to remember to answer to those names, though, because I'm so used to being called "Brains." I'm the chief engineer for International Rescue, and in that capacity I design and create rescue equipment and assist in the upkeep and repair of the fabulous Thunderbirds crafts.

I was born in Michigan on November 14, 2041, though I haven't lived there in quite some time. As a boy, I was recognized as a genius and spent my time in advanced classes at a local school. Sadly, all of that came to an end one day when a violent storm ripped through our town and killed both of my parents. With my entire life leveled, I wasn't sure what would become of me. In rushed a friend of one of my instructors, a professor from Cambridge University; he adopted me and took me back to the university to continue my studies. At first I found this a difficult transition to make, but I soon settled in and enjoyed my new life in England. I made a number of important discoveries as I experimented in the studies of metals and chemicals, publishing my work on my way to a doctorate degree.

Having read of my work and following one of my lectures, I was contacted by Jeff Tracy, the famous astronaut and industrialist. Initially, I thought he was interested in me to aid him in the development of equipment for his multi-billion dollar space construction units. When he described his visions for the creation of International Rescue, I was thrilled and honored to be considered for the team and jumped at the chance to work toward the development of the vital tools and equipment that would be needed to carry out the types of dangerous efforts the IR crew would be performing. I was sincerely impressed that Mr. Tracy's own sons believed so deeply in their father's dream that they were willing to put their own lives on the line to perform these feats of daring that I couldn't wait to assist them in their calling. As the family gathered together and moved to their remote Pacific island home, I joined them and went about setting up my advanced scientific laboratory.

Mr. Tracy can sometimes be a difficult and demanding taskmaster, but I know his intensity comes from a fervent desire to make International Rescue the best that it can be. I'm proud to provide all the support and know-how that I can to help to rescue people in life-threatening situations.
