"Meatballhead" Sailor Moon is probably the last person you'd expect in the world to lead anything other than a refrigerator raid. Nonetheless, she is the leader of the Sailor Scouts. As Serena, she is a crybaby and a pig, and that's in addition to being a ditz, but to her credit she is loyal to her friends. Serena gets annoyed by Darien's constant teasing, but goes ga-ga over his alter-ego Tuxedo Mask, and it is quite amusing when she finds out that Darien and Tuxedo Mask are the same person. As Sailor Moon, she tends to be more courageous and slightly more leader-like, though her "Serenaness" will always shine through at the most opportune times. Sailor Moon's special abilities will either turn an enemy to dust or perform a special function, such as restoring people to normal after they've been turned into monsters. When she becomes Princess Serena, she is able to use the awesome Cosmic Moon Power, which she uses to annihilate Queen Beryl in "Day of Destiny". In the second season, Sailor Moon and the other Scouts travel to the future. They learn that Serena becomes Neo-Queen Serenity and marries Darien as her king. Together, they benevolently rule Crystal Tokyo. Not bad for a meatballhead, eh?
Though Sailor Moon's childishness can be annoying at times, it also serves as comic relief. In fact, most of the humor in the show emanates from Sailor Moon, ranging from hilariously doofy facial expressions to classic quotations such as "All right, that's it! You're not allowed to use my butt for practice kicks!" Sailor Moon is also the master of the funkiest hand gestures known to man. Thus, the odds of someone taking her little Sailor Moon speech seriously are about as high as the odds of Serena passing a math exam. Her attacks are heavily graphically dramatized; this can grow annoying sometimes. They really took it to extremes with her Moon Spiral Heart Attack. Sailor Loulis tried to imitate her and ended up getting really dizzy and falling on the floor. The fact that Sailor Moon is the leader despite being such a goofball adds an element of irony to the cartoon, and gives her an entertaining air of duplicity. But no matter how childish she seems, when a true challenge arises Sailor Moon will deliver every time.
