No Rest for the Weary (6/14)

More to Follow....

No game 3 for the Dragons
Big Dogs Sweep in 7-5 W (6/14)

Late wire reports are not fully in as yet but the early reports of game 2 between the Big DOgs and Dragons have the Big Dogs a 7-5 winner of the F Division playoffs.

Triple OT Slays Dragons
Big Dogs Score First Win 2-1 (6/11)

A very undermanned Dragons squad fell in triple OT to the Big Dogs in game 1 of the finals tonight. After allowing a first period goal to the Dogs (at the 6:48 mark), the Dragons tighened up the D and held the Dogs scoreless for the remainder of regulation (23:12) and the first two 5 minute overtimes and then with only 19 seconds left in the third OT winger Eric Bentz scored on a breakaway to end the game.

Netminder Tony Moura absolutely stood on his head for the Dragons tonight as the Dragons were without defensemen Dave Shelto (knee) and Chris Szymula (knee) and center Mike Connors (business). This left the blanc et rouge with only 2 subs to start the final series. Moura stopped 35 of the 37 shots on him as the Dragons were outshot 37 to 22 on the night. Scoring the lone goal was Doug Stewart at the 5:34 mark of the third period assisted by Jim Gaglione and Eric McGucken.

Up next is game two on Tuesday at 7PM.

Onto The Finals!
Twisted Monkeys Fall in OT 3-2 (6/6)

The Dragons made their way the the F Division finals with a 3-2 OT win over Twisted Monkeys tonight. The East Hartford Mafia made its presence known with authority as Dennis Connors and brother Mike combined for two goals and an assist to lead the way for the Dragons. Defenseman Dave Shelto scored the second goal of the night. Rit Carter also added an assist on the first goal of the night.

In a hotly contested game the Dragons held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before finally putting the Monkeys down with a breakaway goal from Dennis Connors. Netminder Tonoy Moura stopped 36 of 38 shots on net as really stood tall for blanc et rouge.

The Dragons were missing Jim Gaglione, apparently selling some license plates for the state, and Chris Szymula, out with a torn meniscus. But the rest of the squad picked up the slack and came away with the win.

UP next for the Dragons is the winner of the Johnny Mo and Big Dogs game played right after the Dragons game tonight, on Sunday June 11th at 8PM.

Dragons Take Division Crown
Matchup with Monkeys in Playoffs (6/2)

The Dragons by virtue of the Big Dogs loss in their final gaem took the F Division crown for the Spring 06 season. This givews the Dragons a matchup with the Twisted Monkeys in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday 6/6 at 9PM. The Monkeys finished 4th due to their loss to Johnny Mo in the final game of the season.

This is the first time in five seasons that the Dragons took a regular season title. With 4 players scoring more than ten goals this season, marks the first time in team history that this has occurred.

Big Dogs Fall 5-2
Dragons Notch 9th Win (5/26)

The Dragons notched their 9th win of the spring 06 season tonight with a 5-2 win over division leading Big Dogs. This closes out the spring session for the Dragons at 9-3 with a chance to take the division crown if the Dogs lose their final game against the Twisted Monkeys on June 1st.

With the blanc et rouge running a mite short, Doug Stewart and Mike Connors led the way with 2 goals a piece and an assist. Rit Carter added the final goal and an assist. Also netting helpers were Dave Spencer and Dave Shelto. Once again netminder Tony Moura was solid in net as he stopped 34 of 36 shots he faced.

Some rinkside were quoted after as sying this was a classic Dragons win - get outshot by almost double but score just enough to win. With the playoffs looming on June 6th, the Dragons will have to wait until June 1st to find out who they are playing and at what time. Stay tuned to this site to find out more. the final determination will be posted to the Schedule page once team officials know more. The first round game will be either at 9 or 10 pm that much is known at this time.

With the summer roster rounding into shape, many of the same cast of characters will be returning for the summer session. The only question marks at this time are 1)Will the knee of Chris Szymula be sufficiently healed to return for the summer and B)Which division will the blanc et rouge be in, the threat of winning the division would cause an automatic move up per rink rules. these and many more questions and answers can be found here at the Official site for Dragons hockey.

Notch First Shutout Since Summer '04
Monkeys The Victims (5/21)

After a non-playing win last week, the Dragons came back and shutout the Twisted Monkeys 6-0 Sunday night. Behind the four goal night from Doug Stewart and the 32 save performance from goalie Tony Moura the Dragons avenged an earlier loss to the Monkeys.

With Stewart leading the way the Dragons scored progressively in every period, leading 1-0 after one period, 3-0 after two and scoring 3 goals in the third. It was however a costly night for the Dragons as they might have lost jack-of-all trades Chris Szymula to an apparent knee injury in the opening minutes of the second period.

With 8 wins this season, the Dragons are assured of at least a second place finish. Aiding in the scoring tonight were Jim Gaglione (1g 2a) and Dennis Connors (1g), Adding helpers were Mike Connors (4a), Stewart (4g 1a), and Dave Spencer, Dave Shelto and Chris Szymula 1 assist each. The Dragons again outshot their opponent 32 to 24.

The regular season concludes on friday May 26th with a matchup with the Big Dogs at 6pm.

Mothers' Day Win
Johnny Mo Plays It Tough (5/14)

After playing the Dragons tough five days ago, Johnny Mo once again took it to the Dragons on Mothers' Day. But the Dragons were not to denied victory today. With the 1-0 win it gives the Dragons a guaranteed winning season after three consecutive losing ones.

Actually Johnny Mo pulled a copmplete no-show for the 2pm Mothers' Day game and the Dragons took a 1-0 forfiet win. The practice time after the forfeit was declared was quite disappointing to those in attendance. But that leaves the blanc et rouge at 7-3 with 2 to play. One game with Twisted Monkeys on 5/21 and the Big Dogs on 5/26.

Dragons Split Pair
Johnny Mo Stops Dragons Cold (5/9)

Playing two games within 3 days the Dragons split the pair, losing to Johnny Mo 3-2 on Sunday and defeating the Renegades 7-2 on Tuesday night.

Playing on Sunday the Dragons faced a differnet team than the onme they saw earlier in the season in an 8-2 win. The goalie for Johnny Mo stopped just about everything thrown at him. The East Hartford Mafia scored the pair of goals for the blanc et rouge as Mike Connors tallied first in the second period followed by brother Dennis in the third as they Dragons made a valiant attempt to tie the game down the stretch. Adding assists were Jim Gaglione, Doug Stewart and Rit Carter. Netminder Tony Moura was solid in net despite a couple of defensive breakdowns and stopped 20 of 23 shots.

On tuesday the Dragons faced the Renegades and it looked like they were facing yet another tough goalie as there was no score after one period. the Draogns then tallied five times in the second period to basically put the game out of reach. Scoring on Tuesday were - Jim Gaglione (2g 1a), Doug Stewart (2g 2a), Dennis Connors (1g 2a), Mike Connors (1g), and Rit Carter (1g 1a). Adding helpers were Dave Carter (2a), Chris Szymula (1a) and Mike Ugliorolo (1a). Tony Moura stopped 21 of 23 shots.

With the split the Dragons now stand at 6-3 and with 3 games left before the playoffs begin on June 6th. Up next for the Dragons is a rematch with Johnny Mo on Sunday May 14th at 2PM.

Back on Winning Track
Avenge Defeat to Dogs (5/1)

With back to back wins over the Renegades and Big Dogs the Dragons got back on a winning streak over the weekend. Taking a forfeit from the Renegades and a 5-3 win over the Dogs on Sunday afternoon to complete their 4 game west coast swing at 2-2 after a long 23 day layoff.

In the forfeit win the Renegades could not muster enough players within the rink specified cutoff time, and despite still playing a glorified scrimmage ending in a 3-3 tie the Dragons will take the 2 points gladly. And on sunday the Dragons took the game to the Dogs after losing badly 7-4 in their first matchup. Doug Stewart notched his second hattrick of the season as the blanc et rouge scored early against the Dogs (:15 seconds in) and then led 2-0 after one and 4-1 after 2 periods.

In the third the Dragons seemed to settle back after scoring a goal 30 seconds into the third period to take a 5-2 lead. Also notching a pair of goals on the day was centerman Mike Connors. Adding helpers were Dave Shelto, Rit Carter, Eric McGucken and Mike Ugliorolo. Netminder Tony Moura 26 of 29 shots on the day. And up next is Johnny Mo next Sunday 5/7 at 8PM.

Dragons Absorb First L's
Lose to Big Dogs and Monkeys (4/30)

The winning streak for the Dragons ended at 3 and a losing streak of 2 replaced it as the Dragosn dropped consecutive games to the Big Dogs and Twisted Monkeys.

In a game of unbeatens, the Dogs took a 2-0 lead thru the first period and 4-1 after 2 periods. The Dragons closed to within 5-4 with just over five minutes left but unanswered goals by the Dogs closed it out. It was not a stellar night defensively for the blanc et rouge but did see winger Jim Gaglione net the hattrick. Who said a 23 day layoff would be good?

In their next game against the Monkeys it was a little more of the same as the Dragons could not seem to get over the hump as they would play catchup all night long, coming back to from at least down twice during the game. Finally giving up the game winner for the Monkeys with 1:20 left on the clock. Final score of 7-6, and once again the Dragons found a hattrick in the offense as this time it was Doug Stewart.

Scoring for the Dragons over the two games was Gaglione (3g 1a), Stewart (3g 1a), Dennis Connors (2g 2a), and Mike Connors (2g 1a). Adding helpers were Rit Carter (2a), Eric McGucken (1a), and Chris Szymula (1a). Net minder Tony Moura faced 63 shots over the two games and stopped 49.

Up next for the Dragons is a Friday game agianst the Renegades and an early 2pm sunday start and return match against the Big Dogs.

Dragons Take Third Victim
East Hartford Mafia Returns (3/31)

The East Hartford Mafia returned with a vengeance last night as the brothers Connors accounted for 6 goals and 10 points in total as they led the Dragons to an 8-2 win over Johnny Mo. Dennis scored five times brother Mike added 1 and each had a pair of assists. The Dragons scored 4 times in the first period and never looked back. Adding the final tally was Jim Gaglione.

Each player that was in attendance had at least one point and the Dragons outshot their opponent 39-30. Netminder Tony Moura stopped 28 of the 30 shots and not in the book was the outstanding save by defenseman Dave Shelto (Tony I believe he likes Spaten). Assists for the night were - Dennis Connors 2, Gaglione 1, Mike Connors 2, Dave Carter 1, Chris Szymula 2, and Dave Shelto 1. Up next for the Dragons is currently undefeated Big Dogs on Sunday April 23rd at 8PM.

Two in a Row!
Renegades Fall 4-1 (3/26)

The Dragons made it two in row tonight as they knocked off the winless Renegades 4-1. Playing with a slightly smaller squad than opening night, the Dragons seemed to have their legs completely about them after a 19 day layoff. It was eitehr the extra rest they got or everyone was on cycle for their steriod injections this week!

With netminder Tony Moura stopping 22 of 23 shots he faced and the scoring of defenseman Dave Shelto (2 goals), the blanc et rouge made the most out the effort they got from everyone. Also stinging the twine tonight were Jim Gaglione and one half of the East Hartford Mafia - Mike Connors. Adding helpers were Dave Spencer and newcomer Eric McGucken.

Now for their efforts, the Dragons get to play Friday night 3/31 at 6PM against the Big Dogs and then have a 23 day layoff before facing Twisted Monkeys again.

Dragons Take Opener
Monkeys Fall 6-2 (3/7)

As fate would have it, the Dragons faced four of their former mates this evening, including long time goalie Eric Vieweg. But with a smattering of old and new players the blanc et rouge put together a 6-2 win over Twisted Monkeys.

With the return of Doug Stewart, Jim Hannon and Dennis Connors and the additions of goalie Tony Moura and center Eric McGucken the Dragons looked like a new team. Playing with the advantage of having the ENTIRE roster present for the game (this has not happened in many seasons) it was a new look for the guys. And actually playing from ahead all night was a novel idea as well.

Stewart and Connors added a punch on offense and having three pair of defensemen gave plenty of rest to the blue liners. With pairs of goals from Connors, Stewart and Jim Gaglione they showed there is still life in those old legs. Adding assists tonight were McGucken, Gaglione, Dave Spencer and Stewart. It seemed to many at rinkside that Stewart and Gaglione have renewed their "friendly" battle for the team's all-time scoring lead. But nothing was settled here tonight. New netminder Moura aquitted himself very well to most observers as he stopped all but 2 of the shots he faceed. This writer is reluctant to list the number of shots as they seem to be in question. The "official" score sheet lists only that he faced only 7 shots on the night, the Dragons seemed to manage only 13 but team officials believe these number will change when league officials post the official stats later this week.

Up next for the Dragons is a 19 day layoff as they do not play until Sunday March 26th at 10pm.

UPDATE - First Game Changed
Tuesday March 7th 9PM (3/1)

There has been a schedule change for the Dragons and our first game is now on TUESDAY MARCH 12th at 9PM. If not for the fortuitous luck of having Jim Hannon at the rink today, team officials are not sure if we would have been informed in time to field a team for the first game. THANKS MR. HANNON!!!!

See you all on the 7th!

Dragons Open Against Twisted Monkey
Sunday March 12th 8PM (3/1)

The schedules for the spring season were released today and the Dragons are set to open on Sunday March 12th against the Twisted Monkeys. Yes Twisted Monkeys - they just happen to contain four former Dragons including former net minder Eric Vieweg.

Along with the new schedule, the roster was released today as well and we see that management was able to reaquire a couple of old Dragons - forward Doug Stewart finally passed his Woderlic test (7 tries!) and defenseman Jim Hannon is signed on for another tour of duty with the club - apparently over the many nagging injuries which forced his prior exit from the club.

With the exit of goalie Vieweg to the Monkeys, the club spent many days scouring over the combine results recently held at the PISA facilities and signed goalie Tony Moura. Tony played most recently in a club league in Madagascar and held many records for his club - among his most natable is a pritine copy of Pink Floyds The Wall. And to fill the void at second center the team has negotiated the signing of center Eric McGucken who was an undrafted free agent from the West Virgina Coal Association's Midnight Hockey League.

We also see that the F Division consists of 5 teams this season and a couple of familiar foes are still there - Big Dogs and Renegades return, the odd ball team and still somewhat of a mystery is the Johnny Mo entry. See you on the 12th!

New Schedules Due Out 3/1
Season Could Start as Early as March 7th (2/24)

The schedules for the Spring season are due out on Wednesday March 1st. Stay tuned for the official announcement on or near that date. The rink officials have informed the Dragons management that they will be remaining in the F Division for the Spring.

The team is making some roster changes but names are not being announced until the roster is finalized. Stay tuned for more.

Season Ends with Loss to Dogs
Game Long Power Play for the Big Dogs (2/24)

The Dragons winter season ended last night with a 4-2 loss to the Big Dogs. With regular goalie Eric Vieweg back in net, the Dragons skaters were limited to Dave Shelto, Dave Spencer, Dave Carter and Mike Connors. Innocent bystanders at rinkside felt that this could have gotten out of hand given the previous night's performance against Dilligaf.

But that was not to be as the four guys on the floor put up quite a fight as the score was 0-0 after one period. but in the second period the Dogs tallied once on Vieweg and so did the Dragons! A goal by Carter cut the lead in half and the Draogns only trailed by 1 after 2 periods. With the Dragon play going in spurts the guys really held thier own until a pair of goals byt the Dogs in a 50 second timeframe midway thru the third period. the blanc et rouge had no quit as Shelto tallied a goal with just about 3 minutes left. With no gas in the tank to close the gap further the ended at 4-2. This ends the winter season for the Dragons at 3-8-1 and no playoff appearance, with a number of changes coming for the spring 06 season but some old faces are returning and management are holding off on official announcements until contracts are actually signed and lockers are opened.

Vieweg stopped 22 of 26 official shots but it seemed like much more.

Stay tuned for more info as it is announced as we near the start of the next season.

Dilligaf Pounds Dragons
7-0 Loss Ends Badly (2/24)

The Dragons got pounded Wednesday night by Dilligaf 7-0. Sporting only a skeleton crew and a backup emergency goalie using rink gear. This game started and ended poorly for the depleted Dragon squad. With Dave Spencer jumping into net at the last minute and having no warmups things started badly as Dilligaf scored three times in each of the first two periods.

As the third period disintegrated as the division leading Dilligaf never called off the dogs and things began to get ugly and the game was ended prematurly with :20 seconds left as penalties and tempers REALLY began to flare.

Spencer did stop 32 of 39 shots on the night. With the final game of the season coming the next night against the Big Dogs one can only guess which Dragons squad will show up.
