It's One for the Thumb!
Dragons Comeback to Take Title (11/19)

The Dragons ended a 4 year drought tonight when they capped a 2-goal deficit in the third period with an overtime 5-4 victory over the Big Dogs. This is the 5th title overall for the blanc et rouge and first since December of 2002.

With the Dragons up 2-1 late in the frist period the Dogs put on an offensive show as they scored 3 goals in less than a minute to take a 4-2 lead into the second period. The score remained that way until the 3 minute mark of the second when Dennis Connors took it upon himself to bring the Dragons back. The score after two was 4-3 and remained that way until there was a mere 9 seconds left in regulation, that's when the East Hartford Mafia member struck once again on an amazing shot to tie the game on a short handed situation.

Going into overtime the Dragons seemed to take control of the game. Its unclear to the casual observer who actually scored the goal. In talking with several players coming off the floor after the game this reporter got anywhere from Chad Hosegood, to Mike Ugliorolo to Rit Carter and even one who claimed it was Jim Hannon! In the end the OFFICAIL scoresheet has it Hosegood from Hannon (the Hannon contingent disagrees with the official ruling on the floor but there was no convincing evidence from the replays to show it Hannon on the score). Neverless the "goal" was allowed and the Dragons won the first title in 4 years.

The scorers tonight were - Jim Gaglione, Rit Carter, Dennis "The Menace" Connors and of course Jim Han ummm I mean Chad Hosegood. Assisting tonight were Doug Stewart, Gaglione, Goalie Tony Moura and Mr. Hannon. Moura in net depsite a rough end to the first period once again kept the Dragons close and just waited for the offense to wake up enough to take the W. Moura officially stopped 22 of 26 shots but no shots were recorded ofr either team in the overtime action. So unofficially we'd have to add about 4 shots onto that total.

There were numerous honors paid to the Dragons this season, as they almost made it clean sweep of the regular season awards as Moura took home the Top Goalie award and Doug Stewart took home the Assists and Points trophies. But the MVP of the playoffs was the most difficult to award as they were many who deserved it. There was Jim Gaglione who led all scorers for the Dragons in the playoffs with 2 goals and 3 assists, and netminder Tony Moura who held the Dogs in check stopping 54 of the 60 shots he faced, but it went to Dennis Connors who brought the Dragons back in the final game with 2 goals and the last one forced the overtime. It was a split vote and very close and each guy deserved it. There was rumors that the rink was going to produce 2 additional awards but the $$ for those was blown on the new scoreboard sitting in the viewing areas.

Congratulations to all the Dragons on the title and we'll see you on December 5th at 6PM as they open the Winter Season against The Turds.

New Schedule Released
Dragons Remain in E Division (11/18)

The winter schedule was released this week and the Dragons have remained in the E Division for one more season. With the fist game of the new season set for Tuesdya December 5th at 6PM.

There are a couple of old foes we recognize in the division as Dilligaf id back in E as well as Nuff Said and the Hurricanes. See the Schedule page for more info on the new season.

Dragons One Win from 5th Title
3-2 Win Over Big Dogs (11/18)

The Dragons are just one win away from their 5th title as they beat the Big Dogs 3-2 Saturday night behind goals from Mike Connors, Doug Stewart and Jim Gaglione. If not for the 5 really fluky goals nobody would have scored tonight on either side. It was just one of those nights where you swore that it was a friday the 13th or somehting because the ball bounced funny for both teams.

With the Dragons scoring first with only 40 seconds left in the first period as Gaglione fed Connors in front of the net. But the Dogs came back quickly in the second period at the 9:02 mark with a shot from inside their own end. The Dragons waited until the 3rd period to break the tie on a goal from Stewart only to see another strange shot from the Big Dogs find the back of the net with only about 4 minutes left to play in regulation. But with about 1:50 to play Rit Carter hit Gaglione with a breakaway pass and Gags put it away to score the game winner. Adding helpers tonight were Gaglione (2), Connors and Rit Carter.

The Big Dogs out shot the Dragons tonight 30-20 but netminder Tony Moura was awesome as he stopped 28 of the 30 shots. And a couple of the saves were just ones you can only shake your head at and say thank god he's on our side!

There is very little time for either club to lick their wounds as they head back into action tommorrow night at 7 PM with Game 2 of the best of three series.

10th Win Caps Season
5-2 Over Iceberg Slim (11/8)

The Dragons capped the regular season off with their 10th win after defeating Iceberg Slim Wednesday night 5-2. Doug Stewart led the way with a hattrick and Jim Gaglione and Dave Carter also added goals. Mike Connors (1a) and Gaglione (2a) added helpers tonight.

Netminder Tony Moura stopped 36 of 38 shots on net and should have wrapped up another goalie award with his performance tonight.

The Dragons now await the winner of the playoff match between Iceberg Slim and the Big Dogs, in the finals slated to begin on Saturday November 18th at 9PM.

Dragons Claim 9th Win
3-0 Lead Squandered (10/29)

The Dragons won their 9th game of the fall 5-4 over the Big Dogs sunday night. With the Dragons taking an early 3-0 lead thru one period, the Dogs came storming back and eventually tied the blanc et rouge at 4 on a pair of third period goals by former Dragon Ray Glowicki.

Despite some sloppy play by the Dragons defense and some chippy play on both sides (there were 10 penalty minutes called) the Dragons had enough in the tank late to eke out the win. Scoring goals tonight were Jim Gaglione (2) (really? two you're gonna take that one off your shingaurds?), Dawn Ladd, Rit Carter, and Mike Connors. Adding assists tonight were - Doug (I'm not missing anymore) Stewart (2), Dave Carter, Dennis (the other half of the East Hartford Mafia), Ladd, and having the biggest poke check of the season Mike Ugliorolo.

Tony Moura once again played solid in net despite getting his first penalty minute ofthe season on a questionable tripping call, stopped 29 of the 33 shots on net. Up next for the Dragons is the seaosn ender on Wednesday November 8th at 8PM against Iceberg Slim, before their appearance in the playoff finals on the 18th.

First Place Clinched!
8th Win of Fall - Over Agent Orange (10/25)

The Dragons clinched the regular season title tonight with a win over Agent Orange 5-2. This win coupled with an Iceberg Slim 3-game losing streak has clinched first place and put the Dragons into the E-Division finals in November.

With some bizarre bounces and some truly interesting shots the Dragons controlled play most of the night and actually outshot their opponent 30 to 28. Goal scorers tonight came from some likely and some not so likely places. Center Mike Connors scored a pair, but goals from Mike Ugliorolo, George Dunnery and Jim "Slowhand" Hannon clicnhed the win. adding assists tonight were Rit Carter, Dave Shelto and Chad Hosegood (2).

Playing his steady net again tonight was Tony Moura as he kept up his goals against average of 2 per game.

Up next is the Big Dogs on Sunday 10/29 at 7PM.

Playoff Schedule Announced
Aggresive Schedule (10/18)

PISA has posted the playoff schedule for the E Division and its an aggressive one. With only 4 teams, 3 make the playoffs. The first place team gets a bye into the finals. Second and third place play on the Nov. 15 and the finals are scheduled for 11/18, 11/19 and 11/20 if needed. See the Schedule Link for the formal schedule.

Dragons Win 5th in a Row
Iceberg Slim Latest to Fall (10/18)

With the Dragons starting fast tonight and scoring a pair before Iceberg had a chance to settle in, the Dragons came away with their 5th win in a row. Mike Connors scored a pair of goals in the first 45 seconds and put the opponent on their heels. The first goal less than 15 seonds in more than likely the quickest start the Dragons have ever had, and to add the second oneat the 9:14 mark makes it the quickest two goals to start a game in Dragons history. Congrats Mike.

With the blanc et rouge up two early, the defense settled in and played a solid game the rest of the way as the teams traded pairs of goals in the second and third periods. But of note on the night were a couple of fluky plays. the first was net minder Tony Moura almost putting one in his own net (actually hit a post and bounced to a Dragon). The second was Dave Shelto's goal which was not credited until almost a minute later when play had stopped and the ref actually had to confer with his partner and the official scorekeeper in the perch. And finally was Rit Carter's goal in the third period which reminded the old timers of former Dragon Craig Belanger and his way of scoring from the strangest angles.

The only assist credited on the night was to Dave Shelto. Goalie Moura stopped 28 of 30 shots on net and kept his goals against average at a solid 2.00. Up next for the Dragons is a meeting with the Agent Orange on Wednesday 10/25 at 8PM.

Equipmment for Sale
Shinguards Available (10/11)

It has come to the attention of this site that there are available for those that want/need new shinguards. See Mike U if you need them. He has available to him shinguards at $10 per pair - keep in mind that the rink charges around $17 per pair so it appears to be quite the deal. Again see Mike U if you are interested. Thank you.

And the Wins Continue!
Big Dogs Latest Victim (10/9)

The Dragons continued their winning ways Sunday night with a 3-2 come from behind win with a win over the Big Dogs. With the entire roster present and not much room on the bench the Dragons had to overcome deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to notch the win, their 6th of the fall season.

With goals from the East Hartford Mafia (when was the last time they made their presence known?) duo of Mike Connors (1g 1a) and Dennis Connors (game winner) and Jim Gaglione the Dragons just kept pluggin away at the long time rival BD squad. With helpers from Chad Hosegood and Mike Ugliorolo and the solid net minding of Tony Moura (stopped 26 of 28 shots) the Dragons just would not be denied the win despite the efforts of former Dragon Ray Glowicki (2 g).

Up next for the blanc et rouge is a ten day layoff and a matchup with Iceberg Slim on the 18th at 8PM.

Dragons Notch 5th Win
Ladd Gets First Career Goal (10/4)

Agent Orange was the opponent again on Wednesday and the outcome the same as Sunday. A 4-1 win for the blanc et rouge. Of note tonight was the fact that Dawn Ladd notched her first goal as a Dragon in the Second period which tied the game at ones.

Once Ladd opened the gates the rest of the scorers picked up the pace as Jim Gaglione (2g) and Doug Stewart (1g 2a) kicked the gate in and finished off Agent Orange. Once again stellar in net was goalie Tony Moura as he stopped 26 of 27 shots on net. Adding helpers tonight were Rit Carter, Dave Shelto, Mike Connors (2a), and Mike Ugliorolo.

Up next for the Dragons is the Big Dogs in an early evening game on Sunday at 7PM.

Agent Orange Falls
Dragons Win 4-1 (10/2)

Agent Orange tied the Dragons in game 1 of the season, but that was not to be the case tonight as the Dragons took advantage of an undermanned team, soon to lose a player to what appeared to be an achilles tendon injury. With goals by four different players - Doug Stewart, Dennis Connors, Mike Connors and Rit Carter. The Dragons did what they had to do on this night.

Adding assists were Stewart, Dennis C, George Dunnery (2) and Dave Shelto and with netminder Tony Moura holding serve in net stopping 17 of the 18 shots he faced, there really was not much of a threat from the Orange ones on this night. With a rare appearance by defenseman Jim Hannon, the blanc et rouge controlled play most of the night. And they were happy to escape without any ijuries befalling them.

Up next is this same Agent Orange team on Wednesday 10/4 at 8PM.

Dragons Take Down Iceberg Slim
Slim Falls 3-1 (9/28)

In a rematch of sunday's contest with Iceberg Slim, the only thing that was different was the outcome - a 3-1 Dragons win. A tightly played contest for well over two periods saw the Dragons lead 1-0 with just under 5 minutes to play. But goals by Dave Carter and Doug Stewart sealed the deal for the Dragons and gave the Slim ones their first loss of the season.

Scoring the other goal for the Dragons was Stewart on a mighty slapper from just above the dots early in the second period. Netminder Tony Moura almost netted the shutout but for a goal by the Slim's captain Lou Coleman late in the third period. Moura did manage to stop 23 of 24 shots on net as the Dragons once again outshot thier opponent 26-24.

Up next for the Dragons is Agent Orange twice in the next week Sunday 10/1 at 9 and Wednesday 10/4 at 8.

Iceberg Slim Comeback on Dragons
First Loss of Fall (9/26)

In a game which had little scoring thru twoperiod, the floodgates opened in the third period and Iceberg Slim came away with a 5-4 victory on Sunday night.

With only 3 goals scored in the first two periods leaving the Dragons ahead 2-1, the teams combined for 6 goals in the third. A closely played game all nightsaw both teams comeback back from two goal deficits. Slim came back from 2-0 and the Dragons came back from 4-2 only to see the game slip away with about a minute left.

Scoring for the Dragons were - Jim Gaglione, Doug Stewart, Dennis Connors and Dave Carter. Adding helpers were Gaglione, Stewart, Jim Hannon, D. Connors, Dave Shelto, Dawn Ladd, and Mike Connors. In net Tony Moura was solid as he stopped 20 of the 25 shots on net. Up next for the Dragons is the same Iceberg Slim team on Wednesday at 6PM.

Dragons Win Again?
Big Dogs Fall 4-2 (9/18)

It must be a case of the planets aligning or fate stepping in but the Dragons won their second game in a row last night with a 4-2 score over the Big Dogs. This writer fels it must be something along the cosmically aligning planets as the Dragons also saw the return of defenseman James Hannon to the floor for the blanc et rouge.

In a closely played game the Dragons seemed to control things most of the night. Forwards John Beibe (2), Skank Martin and Birdie Burns scored the Dragons goals. Assists were handed to Tree Lane, Stevie Weeks (3) and Ben Winetka. Playing yet another solid night in net was goalie Tony Moura stopping aproximately - 25 of 27 shots on net.

Up next is the Iceberg Slim team next Sunday at 9PM.

Winless Skein Ends at 15!
Big Dogs Fall 6-2 (9/15)

A 15 game winless streak ended tonight with a win over the Big Dogs. Counting a first game tie with Agent Orange and dating back into the playoffs for the Spring season, the streak had hit 15 games without a W.

Game 1 of the Fall Season saw the Dragons tie Agent Orange 2-2 in overtime. Seeing the return of Dave Shelto and Doug Stewart paid dividends almost immediately as Stewart scored and added an assist and Shelto steadied the defense most of the night. Scoring the other goal was Jim Gaglione and he also assisted. This game also saw the return of centerman Chad Hosegood back from his stint with the Twisted Monkeys.

Playing a stellar net and keeping the Dragons grounded was netminder Tony Moura as he stopped 29 of 31 shots on net. This game also saw the Dragons outshoot the opponent 35-31.

In game 2 of the season the blanc et rouge played an undermanned Big Dogs squad and the Dragons pounced early and oftern as they scored the games' first 6 goals before allowing two late tallies by the Dogs.

With goals from 5 different players - Gaglione (2g 3a), Stewart (1g 4a), George Dunnery (1g), Rit Carter (1g 1a), and Mike Connors (1g 2a) the Dragons carried play almost all night despite being outshot 24 - 18.

Once again Tony Moura was solid in net despite not being challenged too much as he stopped 22 of the 24 shots he saw. Up next is the Big Dogs once on Sunday night at 7PM.

New Schedule Released for Fall Season
First Game 9/13 (8/28)

League officials today released the new fall schedule. On the good news bad news front:

Bad News: The Dragons remained in the same division as last season, however there is some light at the end of that tunnel.

Good News: Only four teams in the division, as Dilligaf and Village Idiots move up to D Division, so that means that Big Dogs and the newly renamed Neon Lights will be familiar foes along with the return of the Agent Orange team.

With only four teams in the division that means that only three teams will make the playoffs. With the first game on Wednesday 9/13 the Dragons still have time to gear up their conditioning program to be ready for the upcoming season! See the Schedule link for the full schedule.

Winless Campaign End
0-10-2 Season Ends with 5-3 Loss (8/21)

Neon Lights beat the Dragons 5-3 last night and ended a summer frought with disappointment. With almost a complete team less Jim Gaglione, the Dragons came unraveled in the third period as they allowed the final 4 goals of the game to cap a 5-3 loss.

Along the lines of moral victories was the fact that the Dragons actually had more players than the opposition for the only time this season. And the Dragons were not outshot on the night as both teams were credited with 21 shots on net.

Scoring for the Dragons last night were Mike Ugliorolo, Jen Wydra and Chris Pelletier. Scoring for Neon Lights was Mike Connors! (Oh and what a fine shot it was! :-) ) Adding assists were Connors (2), Rit Carter and Dawn Ladd.

Up next for the Dragons is the Fall Season, and schedules are due out next Monday 8/28.

Tough Summer Continues
Winless Streak Hits 11 (8/15)

With four more losses in recent action the Dragons winless streak has now hit 11 for the summer. Scores over the latest four games were 3-1 to Big Dogs, 3-1 to the Village Idiots, 8-0 to Twisted Monkeys and 8-3 to Dilligaf. This leaves next sunday's game against Neon Lights to break into the win column for the summer.

Scoring for the Dragons were Rit Carter (2), Mike Connors, Jim Gaglione, and Dave Carter. Adding helpers over the 4 game stretch were - George Dunnery (2), Gaglione (3), and Dave Carter.

While the highlights are few and far between for the blanc et rouge, the donation of Mike Connors' bloody socks to the Dragon Hall of Fame are immeasureable.

With the final game of the season looming on 8/20 the Dragons are looking to the fall session to rebound and also to add some familiar faces to the roster. There was a Dave Shelto sighting at a game recently and even his presence could not alter the outcome of the game. And rumors abound that Doug Stewart will soon be donning the white and red again in the fall.
