Playoffs Await
Finish Last Three 2-1 (4/12)

The Spring season ended with a 5-1 loss to Agent Orange, but still finished 7-5 and another matchup with Agent Orange next wednesday. After beating Sporty's and Green Chiefs the Dragons stumbled against the Orangemen last wednesday.

The fourth place Dragons played arguably their best game of the season the night before in the 3-1 triumph over the Chiefs. Only to fall flat on their collective sticks the very next night.

This was only predicated by the 3-1 win over Sporty's last saturday (the beat writer for the team mailed in his game writeups). Leading the way in points over the final three games was Jim Gaglione (3g, 1a). Also adding points were Dean Waller (1,1) - George Dunnery (1,1) - Marc Gilardini (2g) - Mike Connors (1,1). Adding assists only were Aaron Duncan and Chad Hosegood.
In net Hosegood turned in two solid games and one well not quite so stellar. Overall stopping 85 of 93 shots and going 2-1.

Up next as stated is the first round matchup (or semi-final) with Agent Orange.
DiMauro Leads Way with Hattrick (3/29)

The Dragons played a solid game yesterday in beating the Yodelgpickls 5-2. Led by Steve DiMauro's hattrick and goals from Mike Connors and Dean Waller the blanc et rouge have almost clinched a playoff berth. With three to play they have a 1 game edge and the tiebreaker over the Yodelers.

Chad Hosegood, bidding to be the first Dragon rookie netminder to win Goalie of the Season honors, was solid in net stopping 24 of 26 shots on net. And the rest of the team played solidly in front of him. Adding assists on the afternoon were DiMauro, Jim Gaglione (2), Marc Gilardini (3), Rit Carter and Mike Ugliorolo.

Up next is Sporty's next Saturday (4/4 5PM). Also the Playoff schedule was posted and it will be posted here soon.

Shutout For Hosegood!
Offensive Minded Dragons Notch Win (3/14)

With "regular" netminder Chad Hosegood back in net, the Dragons notched a 7-0 win over the Big Dawgs saturday afternoon. This was the first career shutout for Hosegood. In a game where the blanc et rouge actually outshot the opponent (35-25), Hosegood played a solid game in net.

But the real star of the game was the Dragons offense! What you might say? Dragons and offense do not go quietly into that gentle night very often. Paced by two goal games from - Steve DiMauro, Mark Gilardini, and Jim Gaglione the Dragons made off with their 4th win of the season and a .500 record.

Adding assists were DiMauro (3), Waller (2), Gaglione (1) and single helpers by Mick Pechenuk and Mike Ugliorolo.

Some casual observer rinkside couldn't help but notice a bounce in Hosegood's step prior to the game and given today's standards of steriods irst and repurcussions later, it was rumbled throughout the crowd of 5. But later ita was learned that it was just that can of Jolt cola before in the parking lot that had him playing quick all night.

Up next is the Yodelgpikls a mere two weeks from today at 5pm. This is already selling at single seats only and standing room, as this could actually determine who makes the playoffs and who doesn't. These two teams were tied with indetical records entering Saturday play.

Tough Week for the Dragons
8 Days 2 Games No Wins (3/9)

The Dragons had a tough stretch over the past week or so, losing a pair of games, one to the Green Chiefs and one to the Flyers. With their record now at 3-4 the blanc et rouge have to string a few W's together to make a playoff run.

Scoring the lone goal in the two games was Steve DiMauro. Chad Hosegood and Aaron Duncan in net basically stood on their heads in the two game because things could have been much worse than they were.

We also saw a rare appearance of someone who graced this site many seasons ago - Shawn "the Deer in the Headlights" from the Dragons third championship was in the house (see the Photos page for a look at a much younger and innocent boy), a guest of East Hartford Mafia member Mike "The Hammer" Connors.

Despite the recent setbacks (3 in a row) the Dragons look to get abck on track against the Big Dawgs on MArch 14th at 5PM.

We hope this update placates those looking for Dragons ingo. You know who you are - JM!

Last Minute Loss
Agent Orange Wins a Tough One (2/23)

The Dragons lost a tough one last week to Agent Orange, 3-2. The Orange scored with a mere 1:44 left on the clock. The winning goal was scored during 4-on-4 action after the Dragons thought they were getting a power play only to find that a player had some confusion as to when he dhould leave the penalty box. This negated teh power play and left both teams with 4 skaters on the deck.

Playing with their 3rd goalie in five games, Aaron Duncan shook the rust off to do a fine job between the pipes. He managed to stop 23 of 26 shots on net after not being in net for almost 5 years. Scoring for the blanc et rouge were Chad Hosegood and Mick Pechenuk. Adding the lone assist on the night was Jim Gaglione.

With the loss, the Dragons fall to 3-2 on the season. Up next is a matchup with the Green Chiefs on 2/25 at 8PM.

No Moura
Goalie Out for the Season (2/12)

Members of the traveling press corps have all been wondering where is Tony Moura? Press row was all a buzz last night wondering what has happened to the long time netminder for the Dragons.

Team Management held a small yet very private press conference following the game with Sporty's last night to explain what they could. No he is not a book signing tour, no he is not been traded for a bag of balls, no he does not have jock itch. What team management has explained is that Moura is out scouting locations for a new Dragons' trainign facility in Manitoba, Alberta.

While some in the press accepted this explanantion othere were left to wonder just what the Dragons are doing with the all time winningest goalie in club history. Some even drew correlations to Stephon Marbury and the Knicks, or in the extreme Manny Ramirex and the Red Sox.

But club officials did say that Moura is and will be a Dragon for the foreseeable future (he signed a 25 year to life contract in 2008).

Sporty's Falls
Hosegood Wins in Net (2/12)

The Dragons took down Sporty's last night 5-2 behind the new netminder for the Dragons, Chad Hosegood. Playing with two full lines for the second straight game the Dragons found themselves playing with a lead almost from the start of the game.

On the scoring side of things were Marc Gilardini (2), Steve Dimauro (2) and Dave Carter. While the assists were hard to come by there were two - Aaron Duncan and Mike Ugliorolo. In net Hosegood stopped 27 of 29 shots.

up next is a matchup with a former Dragon netminder Eric Vieweg and the boyz from Agent Orange next Wednesday 2/18 at 9PM.

Congrats to the Wallers!
Add to the List of Second Generation Dragons (2/8)

Team management and the entire team would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to the Wallers as they announce the birth of a son on January 15th! All the details were not available but suffice to say mom and baby are well and pops is, well we'll leave that for him to say. Where's the picture, hmmmmm?

Dragons Rebound to 2-1
Scramble to 6-4 and 7-6 Wins (2/7)

The blanc et rouge have rebounded from the opening game loss to now advance to 2-1 after wins over Big Dawgs (6-4) and Yodelgpickls (7-6). Playing without regular netminder Tony Moura Chad Hosegood and Dave Carter notched the wins in net.

Its a good thing for the pick up newcomers Aaron Duncan and Steve Dimauro as they have provided a offense where it was greatly needed as the netminding situation seems to be in flux at the moment.

Complete stats for the two games are incomplete at this time and with the Dragons facing a quick turnaround for a Wedneady night game they should be complete by then.

Up next the 0-4 Sporty's team on Wednesday 1/11 at 8PM.

Overtime Loss Opens Season
Iron Man Squad Plays Tough (1/15)

With almost half the Dragons roster out, including the starting and backup goalies the Dragons dropped a 3-2 decision to the Flyers Wednesday night. With newcomer Steve DiMauro on the floor and Aaron Duncan inactive the Dragons made a game of it against the Flyers.

After trialing 1-0 after :18 seconds things looked bleak but the blanc et rouge warmed up and tied it up on a Rit Carter goal and then were 2-2 after two periods after a goal by Jim Gaglione. With a scoreless third it looked like th enuetral zone trap the Dragons emplyed was going to get them a point on the night. But a goal by the opposition with :18 seconds left in OT left them hanging in the lurch.

Netminder Chad Hosegood played awesome in net and stopped 22 of 25 shots but did sustain a shoulder injury late in the third his status for game 2 next week is in doubt. DiMauro added the lone assist on the night for the Dragons.

Up next is the Big Dawgs (fomerly the Titans - not the Big Dogs) next wednesday at 8PM.

As the Dragons head in to the new Winter 09 campaign, the team was hit hard by some unexpected roster losses. Gone are forwards Mark Gilardini and Mike Giovino and defenseman Mick Pechenuk. When these hit the team was left with only mere days to find replacements. With no viable replacements among former Dragons, the team was left with no option but to hit the waiver wire.
